12 Days of giving this holiday season

This Christmas a local church is wrapping unique presents in interesting ways.
The project is called The 12 Days of Christmas and the goal is to help as many people in the community as possible.
This isn’t something the CrossCurrent Church is doing on its own; lead pastor Dan Richardson wants the community to be a part of it on many different levels.
“We’ve never attempted anything like this before,” he said. “We need everyone to be a part of this if it is to be a success.
First, the church is asking people to identify individuals or groups in need, and send their story into the church.
“We don’t have anything in mind,” said Richardson about requests coming in. It could range from someone needing their car fixed to a family that just wants a holiday meal.
There are a few projects the church is considering, such as helping out at the Christmas Bureau, and Richardson notes the church doesn’t promise to meet all the needs that are received.
A group from the church will review the responses and look into it to the requests to make sure they are valid and they are helping the ones who really need it.
“We’re not a big church,” he said. “We’ll do as much as we can.”
To help grant these wishes, the church is organizing a silent auction on Nov. 27 to raise the money needed. Several local businesses have donated items, which range from a full vehicle detail from Pioneer Chrysler to an eight-hour wedding photo shoot by Weddings in Motion.
All the money raised from the event, which takes place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heritage Park Secondary School, will towards The 12 Days of Christmas.
Starting on Dec. 12 and running for 12 days, church members will be making someone’s holidays brighter as they meet as many requests for help as possible.
“We aren’t sure what to expect with this,” noted Richardson. “It could be a colossal success or a colossal failure, but we have to try it and hope it works.”
Anyone wanting to send in a request can do it on their website 12daysofchristmas.ca. Those interested in following the project can also visit the website to find out the latest news, such as what wishes have been granted and when they took place.
