Mission firefighters spent the waning hours of Halloween battling two structures on fire located on the same property.

The call came in around 11 p.m. for smoke and flames coming from a vacant house on Cherry Avenue, just east of Edwin S. Richards Elementary School. When Mission Fire/Rescue Service arrived, they found the house, and detached workshop both on fire. The blaze was quickly quelled, but firefighters were on scene for about three hours in total, extinguishing hot spots.

An excavator was called to demolish the workshop. No one was living at the residence, and no injuries were reported.
