Changes at the top of Mission Memorial
Updated: October 22, 2009 11:56 AM
Vivian Giglio, executive director both Mission Memorial Hospital and the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre, will be leaving Dec. 1.
Giglio has accepted a new position as executive director of Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, and will also head surgical programs for the entire Fraser Health Authority, again with the title of executive director.
Giglio explained that Fraser Health is restructuring its administration to a “program management model” and the executive director of surgical programs is a new position. Staff in surgeries across the health authority will answer to her.
“So, decisions about surgery will be made Fraser Health-wide,” she said, adding that the new management model should allow for more standardized procedures and the proliferation of best practices.
Giglio has been in health care administration for approximately 20 years, and has been in Abbotsford for seven. She came here from Surrey Memorial, where she had been the director of surgical programs, and was promoted to executive director of MSA Hospital.
She oversaw the move from MSA to the new regional hospital in Abbotsford, and said she is leaving a “tremendous team.”
“It’s one of those bittersweet moments,” she said. “I work with amazing people.”
She will be replaced in Abbotsford by Rowena Rizzotti, who is presently the executive director for the Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope hospitals; and in Mission by Diane Miller, who is Fraser Health’s executive director of prevention and health promotion.
