Businesses prepared for blackout

The upcoming planned power outage has the Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce urging the business community to plan ahead.

“We’ve asked our members to inform their alarm companies, and if they’ve provided for alternate measures for service during that time,” said chamber manager Michelle Favero.

Security is one of the main concerns she’s hearing from local business owners and managers.

“We’re advising members concerned about security to make arrangements to be [at their businees] at that time due to the stretch emergency resources likely to happen that night,” Favero added.

Also ensure you have an old-fashioned plug-in phone, or a cell phone, as loss of power typically renders multi-line phone systems temporarily inoperable.

But businesses aren’t just interested in their own well-being, she reports.

“What they’re thinking is more community based. They’re worried about public safety with no street lights being on.”

The district’s emergency operations centre will be open during that time.
