Two properties, which used to house marijuana grow operations, have recently been restrained by local Mounties recently.

Last week police obtained property restraint orders for a property in the 7900 block of Nelson Street, and one in the 9000 block of Clay Street. Both were busted by police in March this year for housing illegal marijuana grow operations.

Michael Openshaw and his son, Jesse Openshaw, were arrested and charged with two counts of production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking in relation to the home on Nelson Street, which contained 669 marijuana plants.

Chris Crawford was charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking on connection with the home on Clay Street, which contained 691 marijuana plants.

Police will be seeking forfeiture of the properties upon conviction.

According to Cpl. Raina Siou, there is a list of criteria which has to be met before a property is restrained. It's not common, she noted, especially for a case to go through the courts quickly.

It's a risk, she added. "If you grow marijuana in your home, you could stand to lose your home."

• Mission Mounties took down about 700 marijuana plants found growing in an area known as Dewdney Peak.

According to Cpl. Raina Siou, the crop was found in two spots and officers had to hike a steep trail to reach it. No arrests have been made yet, and the investigation is ongoing.
