Two men sustained non life-threatening injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in hit a tree around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Mission RCMP, skid marks show the black 1997 Honda Accord left the road in the 4100 block of Nicomen Island Trunk Road. When Mounties arrived, they found the passenger, a 34-year-old Abbotsford man, laying on the ground with a cut to his leg and bruises to his ribs.

He was having difficulty breathing, said Sgt. Greg Pridday.

The driver attempted to flee, but a police dog found the 34-year-old Mission man, who had some broken ribs, running through a nearby cornfield.

Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the incident police continue to investigate.
