The fire on the the east side of Pitt Lake, just north of Mission, is now burning four hectares of forest.

On Friday morning, there were 10 firefighters on site battling the blaze as well as one helicopter, according to Tim Neal, spokesman for the Coastal Fire Centre.

"The fire has been contained," he added.

The fire was burning about one hectare when it was reported Thursday morning by a fisherman.

The area is fairly difficult to get to, and with the dry forest and deep duff layers, firefighters have their work cut out for them.

A lightening strike is suspected to be the cause of the blaze, which had been smoldering for several days before it was spotted.

The CFC is reminding people to be careful in the forest, especially around campfires.

There is no ban in place at the moment, but it is being contemplated by officials.
