Mission is celebrating Canada Day in style again this year, with a whole host of activities planned at Fraser River Heritage Park.

Parking is available on-site by donation with proceeds supporting our local Special Olympics Athletes, and Mission Heritage Association (MHA). The pancake breakfast begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 11 a.m., or until the food runs out. Minimum donation of $2. All proceeds for this fundraiser support Mission Emergency Social Services and MHA.

This year the District of Mission was selected as one of the host cities for the official citizenship ceremonies, where new immigrants will take an oath of citizenship at ceremonies across the country. The oath is a personal commitment to accept the responsibilities and privileges of Canadian citizenship. For many individuals and families, the citizenship ceremony is the realization of a dream. It is a formalized rite of passage that marks ones entry into the Canadian family.

The Mission Community Services Multi Cultural Department will host the ceremony at FRHP at 9:30 a.m., followed by the flag-raising ceremony at 10:45 a.m. hosted by the Mission Legion. Music and entertainment will be available on the main stage and gazebo from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., with the Grames Brothers headlining at 8:30 p.m.

There will be host of activities and presentations throughout the park this year including the Matsqui Flyball and Agility Super Dog Show, Mission Municipal Forest Loggers Show, Beshano X-treme Bike Show, hay rides, giant climbing wall, petting zoo, gold panning, Optimist Giant Slip and Slide, and the Canadian Tire Kids Zone.

View the Superdog Show at noon, 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. The Loggers Show is at 12:30 p.m., 2:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. The X-treme Bike Show is at 1:30 p.m., 3:45 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Canadian Tire Kids Zone runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

To wrap up the fun-filled event, Tim Hortons will Light up the Night at 10 p.m. with the fireworks finale. For a complete schedule of events and for more information check out www.mission.ca/canada.
