More than 100 people visited historic Silverhill Hall this past weekend to reminisce and celebrate the building's 90th year.
Children roamed about as adults visited, and the scene reminded many of the way things were when the hall was first built in 1919. After some official ceremonies, which included a certificate presentation from Mayor James Atebe, attendees were invited to take the microphone and share stories of the past.
Gordon "Moose" Erickson had a number of tales which brought roars of laughter from guests, as did Bernie Eide, president of the Silverhill Hall Association.
Eide was out of town this week, but his wife, Laurie, told The Record they were impressed with the number of people who came out. Some came from as far away as Whitehorse and Vancouver Island.
"It was phenomenal. I didn't know to expect," she added. "There were a lot of people we haven't seen for a long time (like Erickson)."
All six Shearsmith siblings, Jim, Les, Hilda, Edna, Doris and Margorie, were reunited Saturday afternoon. It had been 37 years since they have all been together, said Laurie.
There are lots of descendants of pioneers still in the community, said Karin Edberg-Lee, whose grandfather, Siver Lowe, donated the land on which the hall sits.
