Rockin’ music at raceway

It’s shaping up to be one of the most talked about entertainment events of the year.
This weekend’s Rockin’ River Music Fest features two top-notch acts headlining Saturday and Sunday. Loverboy performs Aug. 15, starting at 9:30 p.m., while Ronnie Milsap plays Aug. 16 at 8 p.m.
And with the event only two days away, the enthusiasm in Mission and surrounding areas is palpable, says Ed Swanson, one of the event organizers.
“It’s getting really exciting now,” he shared. “We have so many people calling and there’s lots of buzz — lots of excitement.”
Swanson is promising “non-stop entertainment” from the minute the gates open at 2 p.m. Saturday, until the curtain falls after Milsap’s performance.
But this will be more than simply a music concert, promises Ed Swanson, one of the event organizers.
“We’re trying to create a carnival atmosphere,” he shared. “We’re pulling out all the stops.”
Rockin’ River Music Fest happens at Mission Raceway Park, which given it’s an outdoor venue, lends itself to a wider variety of activities, including fireworks, vendors and a packed food court.
Swanson said the intention is to put on these events at the raceway regularly, but that will depend on the public response this weekend.
“In these economic times, people are very selective where their entertainment dollars are going. [The festival] is going to be a real barometer.”
The Mission business owner said local merchant support has been “tremendous.”
Tickets are available at the gate, online at www.rockinriver.com, and at Atlanta Carpets and Rex Cox Men’s Wear.
