The Rotary Clubs of Mission raised approximately $41,000 at their annual gala on Saturday night at the banquet room of the Best Western.

And No Code Blue was there for more than just entertainment value; the band members were each the recipients of a prestigious Rotarian award, the Paul Harris Fellowship.

After the live auction items were sold off, and just before No Code Blue rocked the house, Wilson Sieg and Pam Alexis, the presidents of Mission’s two Rotary clubs, presented the musicians with medals.

No Code Blue is a group of six medical professionals and two businessmen, who play their gigs for charitable causes.

Alexis told The Record that their no-charge shows mean a lot to the non-profit agencies who clamour for the band’s services.

“And they’re fabulous. You have to book a year in advance, pretty much, to get them,” she said.

“It was high time somebody said thanks.”

A Paul Harris Fellowship is named for the man who founded Rotary more than 100 years ago. Recipients receive a lapel pin, a medallion and a certificate, in recognition of their generosity.

There were numerous items auctioned at the event, and the live auction saw a Robert Bateman painting sell for $700, a guided sturgeon fishing trip for four for $550, a Harrison Hot Springs Getaway for $650, an Abbotsford Heat private suite package during the Manitoba Moose game went for $1,000 and a cruise up Indian Arm was auctioned for $600.

Proceeds from this event will go towards the wetlands trails in Silverdale, university scholarships, literacy programs in the community and internationally, as well as Habitat for Humanity projects, the Shelterbox Program, dental projects and polio eradication world-wide.
