CBC Heartland’s Graham Wardle will be helping the Mission Lions Club to celebrate its 60th anniversary this weekend.

Wardle, who plays Ty Borden on the show, will be a guest at the event, said Lions member Marilyn Butchart.

Wardle was born in Mission and grew up in New Westminster. His mom grew up in Silverdale and he still has family in the area.

“Graham was born in Mission, attended many family functions and events at Silverdale Hall, but grew up in New Westminster,” said his mom Debbie.

Wardle’s grandfather, Dominic Donatelli, was one of the founding members of Silverdale Hall.

Wardle was introduced to the film industry at an early age doing television commercials for boys’ clothes and breakfast cereals. He also had parts in local productions, like the X-Files, the Sentinel and the New Addams Family.

His first feature film was In the Land of Women with Meg Ryan and Adam Brody. He landed a role in Heartland shortly after that. The show is in its third season.

Four awards will also be given out that evening recognizing some top Lions in the community.

“Nobody knows whose getting the awards,” said Butchart.

There will also be displays showing the club’s history and a panel with the original charter members in 1949. A lot of the club’s history has been lost over the years, and Butchart is encouraging anyone with photos, historical items, stories, or just a memory to contact her at 604-820-3384.

The Mission City and District Lions Club’s celebration dinner takes place at 7 p.m. at the Mission Lawn Bowling Club. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and anyone interested in attended should contact Marilyn.
