The Mission Community Archives is opening its 14th annual Paths and Pathfinders: Women of Mission exhibit Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. at the Cedar Valley Mennonite Church.

The program was established in 1996 by archivist Val Billesberger, and preserves the records of and honours women in Mission who have made a difference to the community in their own unique way. Since the program began, 75 women have been recognized and this year four more will be honoured. This year’s honourees are: Shelley Clarkson, Hilda Hollister, Elsie Lightburn, and Eleanor Lobb.

At this year’s event, 79 exhibit panels featuring this year’s honourees and the women previously honoured through the program will be on display for the public to view. The event also provides the opportunity for members of the community to meet and speak with many of these remarkable women.

At this year’s opening ceremonies, the new logo for the Paths and Pathfinders program will be introduced by Valerie Hundert, a 2002 honouree who initiated the project, and there will be a special presentation — Spirit of a Woman — by Doris J. Paterson, a 2005 honouree.

Tickets for the event are $7 and may be purchased at Murdoch’s Bookshoppe on First Avenue. For more information visit missionarchives.com or contact Val Billesberger at 604 820-2621, or by e-mailing her at mca@missionarchives.com.
