Favero takes helm at chamber of commerce

The Mission Regional Chamber of Commerce is expanding on its mandate to help local business, and its new manager is hoping to lead that change.

Michelle Favero has been on the job for two weeks, and sees the job as an opportunity to give back to the community she and her family have called home since 1994.

"There's a lot of potential in Mission over the next five to 10 years, and I'm looking forward to being a contributing factor," she told The Record.

Favero has some short- and long-term goals, including increasing the relevancy of the chamber's website, and "making it a community resource, and not just something for business." She hopes to include more community information, and job postings.

Further afield, Favero is aiming to create more advocacy for business in Mission, and encourage people and business to relocate to this community.

Favero grew up in Vancouver, graduating from Templeton Senior Secondary, then pursuing a degree in Slavonic studies at UBC. She gave that up to pursue her passion for cooking, getting her chef's papers from Vancouver Community College. She worked on a tall ship kitchen for a semester, then in numerous restaurants before opening her own catering company, which Favero ran for four years before opting to be a stay-at-home mom.

When Favero re-entered the workforce, she took a job a Fraser Valley Building Supplies for a few years, then moved to her current role.
