Hope Minor Hockey Midget teams welcomed eight teams over the weekend for a high action tournament, but in the end beating out Semiahmoo in the final for local bragging rights.
“The teams were pretty balanced which showed in the scores as the point spreads weren’t too large,” says tourney co-organizer, Pauline Svensrud.
Teams included Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Abbotsford, Surrey, and Ridge Meadows.
The Hope Midget C1 team won two games and lost two games putting them out of the finals. Hope C2 moved up the ranks taking on Semiahmoo for first and second place.
“It was an exciting game with 5-2 win for Hope.”
“The third and fourth place final was an exciting game as well as it end 4-3 for Port Coquitlam but not before a shoot out,” adds Svensrud.
Semiahmoo also won the most sportsman like team award “which was well deserved with a total of only 26 penalty minutes for the whole tournament.”
“At this age division it is a great feat to have only a minimal amount of penalty minutes,” adds Svensrud.
Sportsmanship and Most Valuable Player awards were given out throughout the tournament but unavailable by presstime.
