Lush fairways and greens greeted 54 golfers at the Hope Golf and Country Club's end-of-season always popular Nine and Dine event held last Friday. After the scramble, players enjoyed a delicious “Miners and Prospectors” themed buffet created by Yvette Kreke and her staff. Club event organizer Larry Ortis presented the 1st Low Gross team prize to Robert and Heather Sirianni, 2nd to Alice and John Woods, and 3rd to Peter Scherle and Aki Medley. Least Putts award went to Al and Tammy Bremner, while Charlene and Peter Kelder tagged Best Score #17.
In Men’s Club news, this past week’s 1st Low Gross went to Dick Savage, 2nd to Bob Gledhill and 3rd to Grant Preston. 1st Low Net was awarded to Jim Delnea, while 2nd went to Sean Paquette and 3rd to Kats Sunada. A Deuce Pot of $36 was tagged by Glenn Wejr. KP #9, 0-17 handicap, went to Grant Preston, while KP #9, 18+ handicap, was scored by Rick Whidden. Joey McKinnon fired out the Longest Drive, 0-17 division, while Kats Sunada tagged the Longest Drive in the 18+ division. Congratulations to John Norman, who picked up $147 worth of skins.
In the Senior Men’s Division, winners included Terry Leith and Obie Erickson, who tied for the 1st and 2nd Low Net prizes. Dick Savage took 3rd Low Net. Obie Erickson took KP #9 while Grant Preston snagged the KP on #18.
In the Ladies’ Division, Lois McConville took 1st and Angela Kim took 2nd in the Even Holes competition. Closest Chip, #2, in the 0-24 handicap division, was won by Maureen Crimeni, while Ellen Poole won in the 25+ division.
In Evening Ladies’ Club news, Barb Henry and Bev Scherle both won the Guess Your Score competition, while Bev Scherle and Patty Gebbie both won the Hidden Hole event.
Since they enjoyed the event so much last year, 13 Hope ladies returned to Princeton to take part in the “In the Pink” Ladies 9-hole Fun Competition last Saturday.
To express appreciation and offer a big “thank you” to all the volunteers – builders, painters, cleaners, gardeners, weeders, rakers, debris loaders, rock movers, lunch providers, and tournament helpers, to name a few – the Hope Golf Club is hosting a fun 9-hole Texas Scramble and BBQ lunch on Saturday, October 3, 10 a.m. shotgun start. The BBQ will start at 12:30, rain or shine. Please sign up at the Clubhouse if you plan to attend or phone the Pro Shop, 869-5881.
All members of the morning and evening Ladies’ Clubs are invited to attend the year-end meeting, awards ceremony and potluck dinner to be held at the Clubhouse at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29th.
Catch your fill of golf action both Saturday and Sunday this weekend at the Men’s Autumn Leaves Tournament. With over $5000 worth of prizes, this tournament draws plenty of talent. As well as watching some exciting par 3 action on number 9 and 18 during the day, where there’s a good chance of witnessing several deuces and possibly a hole-in-one, you can also check out the long drive contest on Saturday evening, and the putting competition on Sunday evening. There’s still some openings available if you’d like to play. Sign up at the Pro Shop.
