The District of Hope has dropped the speed limit along Flood-Hope Road over Richmond Hill. The change to the new 50 k/ph limit is to bring the former highway into line with the 50 k/ph speed limit along Water Avenue and Old Hope-Princeton Way.

Not only will the change make the speed limit entering the Hope downtown core more consistent, but it will be less confusing for drivers entering the Silver Creek business core as well, says head of public works, Maurice Wutzke. Previously the westbound speed limit was, 50 k/ph entering Richmond Hill, 60 k/ph over the hill, then dropping at the bottom for the 30 k/ph school zone, then jumping to 50 k/ph through the business section, and then back up to rural highway speed on exiting the community.

The change will also make it safer for the growing number of pedestrians and bikers within the growing residential neighbourhood of Silver Creek, adds Wutzke.

Wutzke does not anticipate that the lower speed limit will make it more difficult for truck drivers to make the hill in the winter time.
