Six Hope castaways recently ventured down the highway to the Ramada Inn Conference Centre in Abbotsford to help raise money for the B.C. Crop for Kids.
Approximately two hundred scrapbookers got together for three days to take classes, do 50/50 draws, make ‘n’ takes, and enter a variety of other contests to raise money for BC Children’s Hospital.
“Last year this amazing group of women raised $22,000. We don’t have the final numbers for this year’s event yet. We are sure it will meet or exceed last years amount,” says scrapbooker Bev Rudance.
Like so many others, Bev Rudance and her home-based business ”The Scrapbook Room” taught a sold out class and donated many door prizes.
“All the Hope women won door prizes but Jenny Dobras graciously gave hers back to be drawn again because she won a free pass for Hell’s Gate and we get them for free,” adds Rudance. Kathy Koopman won the draw for individual costume. Lenora Poulin split the draw for guess how much ribbon was in the jar. Bev Rudance and Lenora Poulin both won a design contest. Rudance also won a free B.C. Crop seat for next year.
The Saturday night theme was tropical. There were grass skirts and coconut bras but the Hope ladies were original. “We dressed as characters from the popular comedy Gilligan’s Island. We also changed the words to the comedy theme song and sang it to two hundred plus women,” adds Rudance. “Just think Gilligan’s Island theme song sang to scrapbooking lyrics - it rocked. We won for best group costumes.
Next year B.C. Crop takes place on October 1-3 at the Ramada Inn Abbotsford.
