A special performance by classical pianist Clinton Giovanni Denoni is not only a chance to see a future master perform but help him achieve his educational goals.
"Clinton Denoni is an amazing young classical pianist who moved to Hope from Mission BC in January of 2006 at the age of sixteen," says Sharon Blythe, of the Hope Arts Council, sponsors of the concert.
Encouraged by his mother, Colleen, a piano teacher, who is now head of the piano department at the Chilliwack Academy of Music, Clinton began playing piano at age four. At age eleven he completed his grade ten piano exam with first class honours and began teaching piano.
In the spring of the same year he was awarded a $1000.00 scholarship at a local festival, which paid for half a year of lessons with his inspiration and mentor, Vancouver pianist, Edward Parker, who charged $50 for a half hour lesson.
In June of 2007 Clinton did the Performers Exam for the Royal Conservatory of Music, receiving first class honors with distinction. He was also chosen as one of the semi finalists at the P.N.E. “ Red Robinson Talent Showdown” and took first place in the “Young Artists Solo Competition” held jointly by the Chilliwack Symphony and the Chilliwack Academy of Music.
September of 2008 saw Clinton performing in Harrison Hot Springs at the Harrison Hotel at the BC Piano Competition where he placed second and was awarded $450.
Currently Clinton is studying with Dr. Jamie Syer at the University of Victoria and was awarded the piano scholarship at the university last year. He also has received a Bursary from the provincial government for academic achievement.
From a very early age Clinton stated that he wanted to be, “the best pianist in the world and to be the world’s greatest concert pianist”.
The Hope & District Arts Council have organized and will be sponsoring a fundraiser concert for Clinton at the Grace Baptist Church at 945 – 3rd Avenue at 7 p.m. Friday July 24.
Drop by and hear Clinton play seven classical pieces, two of which will be ‘Moonlight Sonata’ by Beethoven and Premiere Ballade in G minor by Chopin. Clinton’s guest artist will be another University of Victoria pianist and friend, Erica Gibson, who resides in Chilliwack.
Admission is by donation. All of the donated monies will be given to Clinton to use for his further musical education.
"Please come out and support a rising star at what will be a very pleasant and enjoyable evening of classical music," adds Blythe.
