Agassiz seniors represent at Games

The B.C. Seniors Games were held in Richmond from September 15 to 19, and many local athletes competed, and placed well, in the games.

More than 3,500 seniors from all over B.C. participated in 28 sports from archery to whist. The badminton, floor curling, carpet bowling, speed skating and table tennis were all held in the new Richmond Olympic Speed Skating Oval, and other sports were held in various locations around Richmond. Friday night the participants and volunteeers gathered in the Richmond Oval for a banquet. The next Senior Games are being held in the Comox Valley and Campbell River September 15 to 18, 2010. Medal results for the Agassiz-Harrison area are as follows:

Robert Dumalanede won gold in men's cycling, 75 plus, Hill Climb Competitive; silver in men's cycling, 75 plus, Road Race Competitive; and bronze in men's cycling, 75 plus, Time Trial Competitive.

Valerie Edmondson took silver in women's 60 plus golf - Low Gross (24.4 - 40 handicap).

Shirley Hopkins won gold playing horseshoes in the womens 55 plus Class D (15% - 24.9%)

John Viau won gold in two track and field events; the Men 70 plus 5000 Metre Power Walk and the Men 70 plus 10 Kilometre Road Walk.

Laurence St Pierre won a gold medal in men's 65 plus hockey.

The team of Di Martina-Proteau-Seward-Zawada took silver in Floor Curling in a mixed 55 Plus (B Team).

Jackie Perry and Ron Fujikawa (Surrey) won gold in badminton, mixed doubles, 65 plus competitive.

Jackie Perry and Penny English (Chwk) won silver in the badminton women’s doubles, 65 plus competitive. And the foursome of Sharon Wilhelms, Shirley Lawley, Sandy Hill and Patricia Sinfield (Chwk) took silver in women's 55 plus ice curling.
