Hike of the Week

Once again we are thinking of going to Manning Park - one of the most beautiful areas and so close to the Agassiz-Harrison area.
As if Harrison Hot Springs isn't blessed enough with beauty and scenery, there is, a mere 1.5 hours drive away, a place that might well save you a trip to the European Alps. Yet, though you will hike at high altitudes, most trails are very accessible. To get there, take Hwy. 1 east to Hope and Hwy. 3 to and through the park, drive to the Main Lodge, which you will find about 30 km into the park on your right side. All our hikes started out from there. THE LIGHTNING LAKE AND FLASH LAKE LOOPS - 3, 9 or 13 km round trip
Of all the hikes in Manning Park, the loops around the Lightning Lake are perhaps the easiest. They are well marked, well kept, and have no great ups and downs to speak of. In spite of this, however, they are interesting and beautiful trails.
To get to the lake, turn right just after you pass the Lodge and follow the signs to the lake. The shorter loop will lead you over an old bridge crossing a narrow of the lake and back to the parking lot. The longer, 9 km loop, leads around the entire length of the lake.
If you want to add another 4 km hike on this beautiful trail just continue at the end of Lightning Lake and include Flash Lake to complete the larger 13 km. Lightning and Flash Lake Loop.
