This past weekend, The Crusaders Dragon Boat team, which practices Tuesdays and Sundays on Harrison Lake, went to the International Victoria Dragon Boat Regatta to test its muscles.

"We're a recreational co-ed team," says Manfred Preuss, team captain and coach. "It all came together this past weekend and we ended up in Diamond Division, which is actually a competitive division. Our semi-final race put us in the top of the Diamond medal round."

The Crusaders team finished fifth out of 10 Diamond competitive teams and 15th fastest out of 84 teams over all, which is unusual for a recreational team, Preuss adds.

The teams that competed in the event were from Oregan, Washington, Toronto, Victoria, Vancouver, Kelowna and the Fraser Valley.

The Crusaders next stop is in Penticton in early September.

"We'll see what happens there," Preuss says.

The Crusaders is actively recruiting and hoping to add more Agassiz and Harrison residents to the roster. For more information, phone 604-795-0550.
