There has been some discussion about having a Farmers Market in Agassiz, but no discussion about the effect it could have on local businesses.
'Agassiz is a small community without the population base that larger centres have to support a market. A bigger concern is the impact this could have on local businesses, many of which are already struggling.
The local fruit/vegetable store carries a wide range of local products.
There are a few cottage industries in the area and many growers sell produce from their own farms. We are already able to buy local foods, so why duplicate services?
I'd like to see the focus on promoting local businesses that are already here.
