Ag plan worth a look

There's a fascinating piece of information available on the internet right now. And the residents of this area would be remiss in not reading it.
While the words "Agricultural Area Plan Background and Implementation" may not send shivers up and down your spine, perhaps it should.
As mentioned in this edition of The Observer, the document is available on the District of Kent's website. It's a draft of the work completed by a steering committee for the plan, and the precursor to the Agricultural Area Plan, also available on the District's website.
In total, the two documents run 80-something pages. But it's a good read. It tells the history of the area, and lays out hopes for the future. It explains in full detail the struggles that farmers face, here and around the province.
The plan explains ways of harmonizing farming practices with modern-day growth and residential needs, something that will always be an issue in farming communities.
What the District wants is for everyone in the community to have a look at the plan. Because ultimately, public information and knowledge of the farming processes is key to smoothing out many conflicts, before they even start.
Want to know why manure has to be spread at the most inopportune times? The plan suggests a simple way to explain it — through brochures and website information.
Want to know where to buy local, farm fresh products? The plan offers solutions to smooth front gate operations for farmers, making local foods more accessible, providing more income for farmers, and keeping dollars here in the community.
Just a few good suggestions, among 80 pages of valuable insight. Available for those who care to read it.
