The body of a teen who drowned on Sunday afternoon was recovered from the Harrison Lake lagoon on Friday afternoon.

Devin McClelland-Begon,19, was swimming with a friend on a trip to the lake last weekend when he had trouble crossing the lagoon.

RCMP had used several searching methods throughout the week to try to locate the body, including divers and a special sonar system.

However the weeds at the bottom of the lagoon proved very difficult to search, Sgt. Mike McCarthy says.

"There is six feet of milfoil in some areas," he says. "The divers could barely see their hands in front of their faces."

They found the body at 3:30 p.m., not far from where the Surrey teen was last seen.

There was an almost constant search for the body, with a break on Thursday while they waited for more divers to be called in from around the province.

During the nights, Kent Harrison Search and Rescue patrolled the lake, as did RCMP members.

The lagoon was closed to the public for swimming since the drowning, but has now been reopened. The family had been planning a memorial for the McClelland-Begon, to start at 6 p.m. Friday, just hours before his body was finally found.
