H1N1 vaccine is now widely available to those who want it in Agassiz and Harrison.
This Thursday's flu clinic was planned long in advance, but Fraser Health informed the public health unit Thursday morning that it was opening the clinic to the entire community.
The announcement was last minute, said Kim Roberts, a Fraser Health supervisor for Hope and Agassiz. Previously, only a select few were eligible for the vaccine.
Roberts said all the clinics held in Agassiz will now be open for anyone who wants it, over the age of six months. Clinics will be held over the next few weeks on Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. This week's clinic was held at Cheam Village Care Home.
Austin Hudson, 5, was one of the youngest to receive his vaccination, along with his brother, sister and father.
They all received both the regular flu shot and the H1N1 shot, to help protect another daughter living at home who has Down Syndrome.
Agassiz is sitting about at the national average for vaccinations so far, Roberts guessed.
"We've done a far number of people with chronic health conditions," Roberts said. "I don't know the percentage yet but we're somewhere in the national average."
