New rescue vehicle rolling closer
The Agassiz Fire Department is getting closer to having their new heavy rescue vehicle.
The new truck will replace the department’s 1991 Chev cube van, and will be built by Intercontinental Truck Bodies at a cost of $247,494.21, plus GST.
Kent council approved the use of $50,000 from the fire department’s capital budget. $100,000 has already been given to the department from provincial gaming grants.
The remaining $100,000 will be awarded from the B.C. Gaming Grant Authority if the department can send proof of purchase of the vehicle by the end of August. As part of the program, the vehicle must be built in this province.
The vehicle that this new truck will replace could only carry two members to a fire call.
The new one will carry five. The old cube van will remain in service, but will most likely be modified down the road to augment the existing fleet.
