It seems that Agassiz is getting a little bit healthier.
The results are in from the Physical Activity Measurement Survey, conducted in July this year, providing the District of Kent with some statistics on the health of local residents.
And a few categories have shown a slight improvement over the last time the survey was conducted, in 2006.
According to the results, from a survey of 400 residents, about 70 per cent of residents are active during the week, a five per cent improvement. The same percentage of people spend up to two hours walking each week.
On the whole, residents are active longer and engaging in more physical activity than three years ago.
Residents say a lack of time and energy are major reasons why they aren't more active, and say that more low cost and free recreational activities, as well as additional parks and trails, might help them increase their activity levels.
Kerry Hilts, director of community, recreation and park services in Kent, says the survey acts "as a good baseline," and helps with program design and grant submissions.
