The schoolboy traffic patrol program was causing principal Mr. Duncan and the School Board some concern.
Acting on suggestions that professional training was needed for the patrol members, a letter was sent to Corporal Brown requesting help in training the volunteers.
A bicycle shelter was to be erected at Harrison Hot Spring School.
Agassiz Elementary Senior High School was broken into and more than $150 was taken from the principal’s office. Taken were proceeds from Red Cross money, library fines, and proceeds of text book rentals and workbook sales.
Also stolen were some home economics examination papers.
In 1959 the huge wooden towers that carried the telephone lines from Agassiz to Rosedale were taken down.
The cables now crossed the river via the new Agassiz-Rosedale bridge.
The floors of the two CPR tunnels near Mount Woodside were being lowered two feet to give better clearance for the transport trailers now being carried on the flat cars.
The square dance season began with 27 enthusiasts attending. A new club interest was ballroom dancing. Mrs. Pat Keegan demonstrated the basic steps of the tango and the foxtrot.
The Hockey Club began practicing in Chilliwack. Season’s tickets cost $1.00 for 12 games.
