1959: Agassiz champs win second straight year

Echoes from the Past:

50 Years Ago, 1959

In 1959, the directors of the Agricultural Association voted to change the Fall Fair to a Saturday for the next year to encourage more people to attend and to enable more people to volunteer.

September of 1959 was the worst month on record for traffic accidents in the Agassiz area. There were 12 major accidents in this small area.

Gibson’s Red and White advertised tubes of tomatoes for 19 cents per tube. Four tomatoes were often sold in a cardboard tube covered with a cellophane top.

Members of the Agassiz Baseball squad won the Fraser Valley Seniors B League for the second straight year, pictured above.

Many of the members of that team are still living in the area.
