Harrison Fest line-up jam-packed

The Harrison Festival Society has a jam-packed lineup of shows and events planned for this fall. Four concerts and a craft market should offer a little something for everyone.

The season kicks off with the return of Diana Braithwaite and Chris Whiteley with their original captivating blues in the style of the 1920s and '30s. Diana Braithwaite is a renowned vocalist, while Chris Whiteley is regarded as one of Canada’s best multi-instrumentalists, and together they are magic. The duo will perform September 11, at 8 p.m.

The following weekend features the annual Castles and Crafts Craft Market. This popular market features some of the finest artists and artisans B.C. has to offer. There will be a wide range of crafts, suitable for early Christmas shopping, gift giving or just to treat yourself and all items at the market are handcrafted by the artists. The market is in the Memorial Hall on September 19 and 20, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days and admission is free.

The first of two shows in October presents a rare opportunity is see Irish music at its best. Playing together since 1992, Rattle the Boards have been praised as one of the best traditional acts in Ireland’s music scene. As their name suggests this is a group that will have its audience on their feet and rattling the floorboards. The band comes to Harrison October 9, 8 p.m.

Later in October John Mann, best known for his 24 years with folk pop band Spirit of the West, showcases his stripped down Alt-Folk roots. Mann’s beautiful melodies and emotionally honest lyrics delivered with the strumming of a single acoustic guitar and warmly familiar vocals never fail to capture audiences. Mann will do one show, October 24, 8 p.m.

Finally Harrison welcomes the return of the Steve Dawson Trio. Dawson is an accomplished guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. Specializing in slide and fingerstyle guitar, pedal steel, lap steel, banjo and other stringed instruments, he is in-demand as a live performer, session musician, and producer. The Vancouver Province labels him “...one of a handful of steel-string players who can create magic...”

The Trio appears in Harrison on November 14, 8 p.m.
