Aglukark visits Chehalis School

Chehalis Community School welcomed Canadian singer and songwriter Susan Aglukark with drumming, singing and dancing on Wednesday morning.

And in return, she spoke to parents, young adults and educators about the barriers First Nations people face today.

But more importantly, she spoke about how to overcome those barriers. And the key, she said, is to raise leaders for tomorrow.

Chehalis Community School is doing just that, she added.

"I see all the good work going on here," she says, in the school and on the reserve.

As part of the day's events, several of the students sang their own version of Aglukark's song O'Siem.

She, in turn, sang a few verses from the song for the audience.

The day was recorded by CBC Radio for a future broadcast.
