Irving's shutout gets Heat back on track

Leland Irving posted the first shutout in Abbotsford Heat history on Wednesday night, as the Heat knocked off the Milwaukee Admirals 2-0 on the road.

Irving made 26 saves to help the Heat snap a three-game losing streak and boost their record (5-4-2-1) back above the .500 mark.

Kris Chucko opened the scoring on Wednesday with a goal at 12:57 of the first period, knocking a puck past Mark Dekanich, who had cheated off the short side.

Carsen Germyn notched his third goal of the season early in the second period, stealing a puck deep in Admirals territory and picking the top corner on Dekanich to make it 2-0.

Irving was good all game, but great in the third. The second-year pro made key stops on Mark Van Guilder and Jonathon Blum to preserve the lead.

Up next, the Heat visit the Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday night in the fifth game of a six-game road trip. Abbotsford wraps up the road swing on Sunday, when they stop in Cleveland to play the Lake Erie Monsters.

The next Heat home games are Nov. 6-7, when the Rockford IceHogs – the AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks – visit the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre.
