Canada West honours UFV soccer stars
UFV Cascades midfielder Robbie Fadden was voted a second-team all-star by Canada West coaches, along with his teammate James Giebelhaus.
A pair of University of the Fraser Valley men's soccer players have been named Canada West second-team all-stars.
James Giebelhaus and Robbie Fadden were picked for the all-star squad, which was selected by the conference's head coaches.
Fadden, a second-year midfielder, started 12 of 14 games for the Cascades and tied for the team lead with four goals. Giebelhaus, a fourth-year defender, was the Cascades' captain and led the team in total minutes played with 1,170.
Fadden attributed his success to good old-fashioned hard work.
“As a second year player, this league suited my style of play," Fadden said. "It is a hard-working league, and with a good effort, any player can compete with the best in the league.
"It’s also exciting being part of a team which is getting closer to competing with the big schools. I know that by the time my later years come around, we should be right there with the league’s powerhouse teams.”
UFV head coach Alan Errington called Giebelhaus "the best left back in the league."
“He has shown consistently that he can play at the highest level," Errington said. "His leadership and knowledge of the game makes my job a lot easier, since he coaches the game while he plays. I consider James a future coach, but he still has a lot of playing to do yet.”
