Shutout were the order of the day in high school football action on the weekend, as the W.J. Mouat Hawks and Rick Hansen Hurricanes registered victories via the goose egg.
The Hurricanes, ranked No. 3 in AA, rode a quick-strike offence to a 55-0 win over the Langley Saints.
Hansen quarterback Greg Bowcott tossed just seven passes in the win, but he completed six of those for 155 yards and a trio of touchdowns. Bowcott also scored on a one-yard QB sneak.
Fullback Mark McCutcheon accounted for three majors – two through the air and one on the ground – while Mitch Lesyk added two TDs of his own. The senior found the end zone on a school-record 70-yard interception return, and added a 32-yard scoring run on his lone carry of the game.
Hansen's 5-1 regular season record is good for second place in the Mainland Conference standings.
For the Hawks, defence was the story. The province's fourth-ranked AAA squad notched three defensive touchdowns en route to a 46-0 victory over the St. Thomas More Knights.
James Brodland and Tyler Declare returned interceptions to the end zone, and Sammy Jasper recovered a fumble for a score.
For good measure, the Mouat offence kicked in with four touchdowns, including two on the ground from tailback Allan Dicks, who finished with 70 yards on 13 carries.
The Hawks currently sit second in the Eastern Conference standings with a 3-1 record.
The Abbotsford Collegiate Panthers fell to 1-5 on the year following a 40-8 defeat against the Seaquam Seahawks. Nelson Lawler notched the Panthers' lone major, returning an interception for a TD.
Abby QB Carson Williams and receiver Drew Baneran connected on five passes for 100 yards, plus a two-point convert.
The Panthers wrap up the season at home on Friday, when they take on Pitt Meadows at 1 p.m.
