NAME THE MASCOT
The University of the Fraser Valley athletic department is holding a contest to name its new mascot.
The Cascades' mascot will be a giant sasquatch, and to view a photo, visit abbynews.com.
To enter the contest, send your proposed name and the rationale for it via e-mail to dale.cory@ufv.ca by Friday, Oct. 30.

DOWNING UP TO THE CHALLENGE
Abbotsford's Grayson Downing will suit up for the World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Prince Edward Island next month.
Downing, a forward, was named to the Canada West roster earlier this week. This season, he's racked up eight goals and seven assists in 13 games with the BCHL's Westside Warriors.
The World Junior A Challenge runs Nov. 1-8 in Summerside, PEI.

OLYMPIANS MAKE A SPLASH
The Abbotsford Olympians swim club posted series of personal best times at a meet in Langley last weekend.
Jessie Gibson, Hannah Weinkauf, Robyn Nakano, Brenna Wiens, Alexander Simpson, Alina Blakey and Tavleen Grewal made up the team from Abbotsford. Wiens had a particularly strong performance, shattering all over her previous best times – an amazing accomplishment this early in the season. Weinkauf and Nakano also set five personal best marks.

SPLIT FOR UFV HOCKEY TEAM
The University of the Fraser Valley hockey team split a pair of road games against Okanagan College last week.
The hosts won the opener 8-5, on the strength of five power play goals, but the UFV squad bounced back with a 7-3 victory in the back end of the doubleheader. Seven different players scored for UFV, while Michael Chan made 40 saves.
UFV hosts SFU on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Centre Ice.

BOWLER ROLLS TO GOLD
Marissa Wall of Abbotsford finished in first place on the B.C. Shootout Youth Tournament Bowling Tour.
Competing in the 159-and-under division, Wall bowled a total of seven games with a total pinfall of 1,269, with a high game of 218.
