With all due respect to Chicago, Abbotsford was fully deserving of the "Windy City" moniker on the weekend.

The University of the Fraser Valley men's soccer team would be the first to attest to that. The Cascades posted mixed results in blustery fall conditions at Bateman Park, as they beat the Saskatchewan Huskies 2-1 on Saturday and fell 2-0 to the Alberta Golden Bears on Sunday.

"It was an up and down weekend," UFV coach Alan Errington summarized. "I was delighted on Saturday, and felt we played quite well.

"But as well as we did on Saturday, I thought we were as poor on Sunday."

The wind played a fairly significant role on Saturday, as the Huskies built a 1-0 lead with the wind at their backs in the first half. The Cascades used the wind to their advantage after the break, rallying to win on goals by Robbie Fadden and Ethan Claibourne-Collins.

On Sunday, the Golden Bears scored an early goal and then added a late insurance marker to seal the victory.

"We've been in every game," noted Errington, whose team sits at 2-6 on the season. "We're just missing that little edge to get us over the hump.

"It's not how good the other teams are – it's how we play and the mistakes that we make that cause the problem. It's not like anyone's come in and torn us apart for 90 minutes. It's silly little mistakes that we make that lead to goals."

The UFV women's soccer team went undefeated on a weekend road trip, tying Alberta 1-1 on Saturday and beating Saskatchewan 2-1 on Sunday.

Emma Broadfoot scored the Cascades' lone goal against Alberta off a cross from Angela French, but the Pandas bounced back to knot the score in short order.

UFV found themselves trailing the Huskies 1-0 at half on Sunday, but goals by Megan Webster and Selina Miller lifted the Cascades to victory. The Cascades sit at 4-2-1 on the year, good for fifth place in Canada West.

Both UFV soccer teams hit the road this week to face UBC on Friday and Trinity Western on Saturday.
