Mitch McColm will be the captain of the Chilliwack Bruins for the 2009-10 season.
Bruins coach Mark Habscheid made the announcement earlier this week, and added Shayne Neigum and Brandon Manning as assistant captains.
McColm, who recently attended the Vancouver Canucks rookie camp, was acquired by the Bruins from the Tri-City Americans in April. The six-foot-four, 214-pound defenceman has racked up 22 points and 259 penalty minutes in 139 career WHL games.
Neigum was acquired from the Edmonton Oil Kings in a multi-player deal in April. The Kindersley, Sask. native played two seasons with the Kings, scoring 13 goals and 15 assists in 127 games.
Manning led the Bruins defencemen in scoring last season with 11 goals and 18 assists, to go along with a team-record 140 penalty minutes. Manning is currently attending training camp with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Bruins open the WHL regular season on Friday night, when they host the Kamloops Blazers at 7 p.m.
