The University of the Fraser Valley’s Junior Cascades U17 squad defended their home court in impressive fashion during the Western Canadian Club Basketball Championships.
Playing at UFV’s Envision Athletic Centre on the weekend, the Junior Cascades girls took the gold in their age group. They sealed the title with a 51-40 victory over Drive Basketball.
Kayli Sartori earned tournament MVP honours for the Junior Cascades, while Chelsea Reist and Sarah Wierks also turned in stellar efforts for the winners.
The Junior Cascades had beaten Drive on two occasions prior to Sunday’s final, but the home team had to work for everything they got. The game was tight for three quarters, but the Junior Cascades pulled away down the stretch.
The tournament also featured a U15 girls division, and Drive clinched the gold with a 58-34 win over 3D in the final.
