Just patch roads if that's all we can afford

Have we been so mismanaged at the municipal level that a new gas tax is required? And for roads no less. Into which hole has the roads portion of our tax money actually disappeared?
After years of unprecedented increases in property taxes, and a five-year projection of over 30 per cent in further increases, taxpayers are justifiably fed up.
How about a reality check here. Our “leaders” try to control communication by asking us what services we would choose to cut.
The answer is simple: if patching the roads is all we can afford, that’s the choice.
Taxpayers have a hard enough time balancing their own books. Councillors need to get down to it and do the job for which they were elected without abdicating responsibility. We’re tired of being viewed as the personal piggy bank of politicians.
