Health cuts target Valley seniors

British Columbia’s elder population is being targeted and victimized, but who cares?

Fraser Health was instructed by the Liberal government to cut its budget and without hesitation Fraser Health targeted the population who do not have a voice – seniors.

Rather than cutting from administration overlaps, Fraser Health is slashing and eliminating essential programs which help seniors such as White Rock/Surrey Senior Support Services. This is absurd because these programs provide a lifeline and save seniors from visiting ERs at local hospitals.

Without these valuable lifelines, the number of ER patients will rise significantly costing taxpayers more than the cost of the programs.

Where is the logic?

Shame on the Liberal government if they choose to ignore and allow Fraser Health to eliminate programs which target this frail population. Many seniors have selflessly served Canada in wars, survived the Great Depression and built this province, this nation, to be what it is today.

They deserve better than this.

But again, I ask you, who cares? They are old, what good are they anymore? What has happened to “respect your elders,” or “honour your father and mother?”

We wonder why society has sunk to the condition it is in, look in the mirror – we are the cause. Honourable values and morals are perishing just as our seniors are.

We will all be old some day, this is guaranteed. How do you want to be treated when you are elderly, with dignity and respect, or with contempt and disregard?

Be an advocate and call your local MLA, speak up for those seniors whose voice is not as strong as it once was.
