Autonomy for hospitals
On Aug. 17, I went to meet and have coffee with Dr. Nigel Murray from the Fraser Health Authority at Mission Hospital. He would answer questions about what was going to happen to the hospital.
Well folks, the CEO didn’t come alone; he brought four of his senior managers. Guess who answered the bulk of questions, without once saying anything concrete?
There was a bunch of rhetoric about stats, the future and doing assessments of what will work where, without even one little action plan in place.
I do believe that the best thing that could happen for the province is for Gord Campbell to dissolve the health authorities and give the hospitals back their autonomy.
I did let Nigel know that when Neville Cox was CEO, Mission Hospital was run in the black.
Since the health regions took over, it hasn’t been so fortunate. As a matter of fact, there has been a great deal lost to the community.
