Face up to ‘threats of violence’
The writer of the letter suggesting that we should boycott the Abbotsford International Airshow because “our lives and our security are safeguarded through the permanent threat of violence against anyone who might wish us harm” seems to be unaware of, or has conveniently forgotten, a particular episode of history that involved a group of young airmen facing a “threat of violence.”
In the late summer of 1940 the Nazi airforce attacked the U.K. in what has come to be known as “The Battle of Britain.”
A group of young airmen meeting a “threat of violence” fought and won a victory.
I would suggest that our world would be a lot different and we would enjoy less freedom if those young pilots had not met and dealt with this threat of violence.
I firmly believe that the airmen in the armed forces who perform at the Abbotsford International Airshow would respond in a like manner if either Canada or the U.S.A. were faced with any “threat of violence.”
Perhaps the writer and those others who hold similar views might think and reflect on this, or perhaps he/they think that if our lives and security are threatened we should just sit back and do nothing about it.
I for one think that any “threat of violence” should be faced and dealt with.
