Chooses not to patronize scanning bars
Updated: July 31, 2009 2:40 PM
I am writing about the article which ran in the July 25th edition of The News, clarifying that bars can still scan personal identification.
Well, I guess they can, but will I be there?
My niece and I recently had a discussion on this topic. She was in favour of establishments taking this step in order to protect her.
My question to her: “Did you ever read the book 1984?”
Of course, says she.
The next question: “How do you think it all started?”
Whenever someone or a business starts talking about, “for the safety/protection of the people” the hair on the back of my neck goes up, my heels dig in, I stand taller, smile and tell them, “I don’t think so.”
First of all, prove to me that I’m guilty of something. As I have broken no laws, I’m innocent; therefore, I do not need your “protection.”
Secondly, if you really want to keep the bad guys out, keep track of them and don’t let them in. Please do not tell me that it’s easier to keep accurate count of all the innocent people over the few guilty ones – I’m just not that gullible.
So, all you proprietors out there, know that you are pulling the wool over of the eyes of the young, but not the young at heart. A number of my friends and I have had this discussion and we will not patronize your business.
After all, we are living in Canada and we do have the freedom of choice.
