Dog education

Re: Boy mauled, July 2.

I am distressed that the mother has called for a strengthening of laws to have the dog destroyed.

Our laws already condemn too many dogs to death. What we need are controls on bad breeding and to have humans educated in how to properly exercise and socialize dogs – also in how to behave around them.

People like Cesar Milan regularly prove that even dogs that had been abused, used in fighting, do not necessarily bite again.

They can be rehabilitated and one bite does not mean the dog is human aggressive.

The media often foments this panic out of ignorance, and thousands of innocent animals are needlessly destroyed. Shame on us for being such a self-centered species.
