How absurd
It was a rare treat to read your witty and well-informed editorial, “Those Cursed Cannons.”
You show an “uncannony” (groan) insight into the problems surrounding the use of these dreaded devices.
Over the last 10 years or so we have seen several of our neighbours move lock, stock, and dairy farm to escape this seasonal war game between the blueberry farmer and the starlings – a never-ending game wherein no one ever wins and the only ones who lose are the unsuspecting neighbours whose peace and quiet is systematically shattered every few minutes all summer long.
The whole idea of using cannons to scare birds is absurd.
I’ve given up trying to argue rationally against something that blatantly defies logic, common sense and decency.
How very absurd
To use a 130 decibel cannon
To scare away a bird.
And what an atrocity
To subject one’s neighbours
To such horrendous
Volume and velocity.
And what a riot
To think that
The Farm Practices Protection Act
Defends the blueberry farmers right
To violate everyone else’s right
To a little peace and quiet.
