Metro Vancouver’s waste management committee and engineering staff only understand landfill and incineration.
Although they are aware of an odour-free technology that not only cleans and separates recyclables, converts biodegradable materials to methane gas, creates a soil improvement product, has a liquid waste stream and separable carbon dioxide suitable for growing algae for oil recovery, all at a fraction of the cost of an incinerator, they won’t spend the money to go to Australia to see this high-tech plant in action.
Eighty per cent of the municipal solid waste is recovered and reused. The remaining 20 per cent is environmentally benign.
