Respect on the road

I am a bus driver. On June 16, while driving on Sumas Way near Marshall Road in Abbotsford, a lady cut in front of my bus. She was so close to me when she did this that I couldn’t see her back bumper or her turn signal. In addition to this, when I tried to back off to compensate for this absolutely stupid move, she slowed her car down at the same rate so I couldn’t back off.

While doing this, the light changed at Marshall Road and she stopped. Because of her foolish move, I was so focused on trying not to hit her that I didn’t notice the light change until she stopped and forced me to an emergency stop.

When you force a bus driver to perform an emergency stop like that you not only risk serious injury or death to your passengers and yourself, you also risk the same to the passengers and driver on the bus.

There were 37 passengers on that bus who all wanted to say something to that lady. I’m sure she knows who she is. All I ask is that drivers please show a little more respect for the larger vehicles on the road.

If you don’t have at least two lengths of the vehicle you are passing (three on the highway) behind you, it is definitely not safe to pull in front of that vehicle. To do so risks serious injury or death. Please don’t put me in the position of being the survivor of a fatal collision.
