Abbotsford Police took two days to dismantle a sizable drug lab discovered on Brookside Avenue on Wednesday.

Officers on an unrelated call to a home in the 31300 block of Brookside at around 3 p.m. noticed a suspicious smell and the sound of machinery coming from an outbuilding.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found a large methamphetamine lab and 200-plant marijuana grow operation.

A specialized unit was brought in to dismantle and remove the hazardous chemicals and equipment, said Const. Ian MacDonald.

It took two days to finish and police seized over 146 different articles including pill presses, respirators, gallon buckets of coolants and large amounts of caustic soda.

"We were concerned about the proximity of a meth lab and grow operation to an area elementary school and high school," said MacDonald

A 57-year-old man connected to the property is facing two charges of drug production and one count of possession for the purposes of trafficking.
