Updated: October 30, 2009 3:17 PM
Marijuana activist Tim Felger has a court date for a preliminary
hearing in connection to drug charges for allegedly selling pot to teenagers out of his downtown store. The hearing is scheduled for June 1 in Abbotsford Provincial Court, which will determine if there is enough evidence for a trial.
The Abbotsford drug squad raided Felger’s Da Kine shop on
Essendene Avenue on May 13.
TEENS CANVASS FOR CHARITY
Abbotsford teens will be knocking on doors tonight for something other than treats. A group in
connection with local churches will gather food for the Abbotsford Community Services’ Food Bank and practical items for at-need youth from Cyrus Centre. They will not be collecting cash.
The group will knock on doors in several areas of the city from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. They will wear name tags to identify themselves as
partners with the food bank and Cyrus Centre. Households that donate will be given a card to place in their window to indicate they have already given.
Suggested donations for Cyrus Centre include: $5 coffee gift cards, bus tickets, gloves and
mittens, socks and styrofoam cups.
MEDICOS ABROAD
Four medical professionals left Abbotsford this week to assist at a clinic in Africa.
Dr. Murray Nickel, Dr. Harold Wiebe and nurses Becky Janzen and Judy Bushe all work at the emergency department of Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
They will help at the Bon Berger Clinic in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, teaching skills and improving techniques to help the clinic operate more smoothly. They are also taking along supplies that were opened but unused at the Abbotsford
hospital. All are paying their own way, and their trip is not affiliated with any organization.
